For the first time international film commissioners and location managers have teamed up to offer instruction on location management to the production sector.

The new Location Management 101 training programme stems from a partnership between Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI) and Location Managers Guild International (LMGI) and is open to everyone involved in production.

Location Management 101 encompasses topics such as location research, planning, scouting, budgeting, permitting, photography, laws/regulations, transportation, security and equipment and uses sample real-world tools such as contracts, maps and checklists.

The online course explains how to work effectively with the various entities involved in on-location production such as film commissions, property owners, residents and businesses. It also explores how location managers play a role in broader industry issues like workforce diversity and inclusion, Covid-19 compliance, on-set safety and sustainability.

The curriculum was created in partnership with longstanding LMGI members whose credits include the Mission: Impossible series, The Irishman, American Crime Story, Tomorrowland and Men In Black.

Location Management 101 is part of AFCI University, which offers courses on topics ranging from Film Commission Fundamentals and Economic Development to Gender Identify & Sexual Orientation Sensitivity Training.
