Maïmouna Doucouré’s biopic Josephine Baker has begun its shoot in France and Bulgaria, with Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor among the newly announced cast members.
Shooting will take place from September 7 to November 13 across France, including Paris and the Dordogne, and in Sofia in Bulgaria.
The previously announced FKA Twigs stars as US-French performer Josephine Baker, who was a defining figure of the Jazz Age, joined the French Resistance during the Second World War, and became a prominent voice in the American civil rights movement.
Also joining the cast are Giuseppe Maggio, Grégory Montel, Benjamin Millepied, Féodor Atkine, Alex Lutz and Harmony Riley.
Doucoure, whose previous films include 2020’s Cuties and 2022’s Hawa, will write and direct the film, which is produced by Studiocanal and France’s Bien Ou Bien Productions.
Studiocanal is releasing in its territories of UK-Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Benelux, Poland, and Australia-New Zealand, and is handling worldwide sales.
