EXCLUSIVE: And Then We Danced director Levan Akin has set drama Summer In Heat as his next feature, to shoot this summer with a planned 2027 launch.
Written by author and playwright Jordan Tannahill, Summer In Heat will be an evocative drama exploring desire, tradition and forbidden emotions.
It will be produced by Akin’s regular collaborator Mathilde Dedye and ABBA Voyage producer Ludvig Andersson for Sweden’s RMV Film.
Co-producers are Film i Väst, Katja Adomeit of Adomeit Film, Xenia Maingot of Eaux Vives Productions, and SVT.
Akin’s previous feature Crossing opened Panorama in 2024, winning the Teddy Jury award highlighting significant queer stories; while his 2019 film And Then We Danced debuted in Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes and was Sweden’s Oscar entry.
Dedye produced And Then We Danced and Crossing, while Andersson produced Akin’s second feature The Circle.
Canadian writer Tannahill’s novel The Listeners was adapted into a 2024 BBC miniseries; while his most recent play Prince Faggot debuted Off-Broadway last year.
“Levan Akin is one of the most exciting filmmakers working in Europe today,” said Kristina Borjeson, head of production at Film i Väst. “Summer in Heat is a bold and intimate project that aligns perfectly with Film i Väst’s ambition to co-produce visionary, director-driven films with international reach.”
