Lionsgate is readying a sequel to the box-office hit The Housemaid, titled The Housemaid’s Secret, which it says will shoot this year.
The project is being developed ”with an eye for director Paul Feig and stars Sydney Sweeney and Michele Morrone to return”, said the company in a statement.
The Housemaid has grossed $133m worldwide and $75m in the US in its first 17 days of release.
Producers Todd Lieberman, Feig and Laura Fischer will return, alongside screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine, with Sweeney back as an executive producer.
It will be based on the second book in Freida McFadden’s viral trilogy and has been in development for a few months.
The original film was shot in New Jersey, US, and starred Sweeney alongside Amanda Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar, Elizabeth Perkins and Morrone. It follows a wealthy housewife and her new live-in hired help as they both grapple with keeping dangerous secrets.
A shoot location for the sequel has yet to be confirmed.
