Sakhya Byamba’s Zogsool led the Vision Awards at Busan International Film Festival on Wednesday (October 14), taking home four trophies.
The Mongolia-German production won the Netpac Award, Fipresci Award, Hylife Vision Award and Vision of Jiseok Award. The latter two each include a cash prize of $7,500 (KRW10m).

Set amid the chaos of the Covid pandemic, the satire follows an old tanker driver who finds himself quarantined at a gas station in rural Mongolia alongside a single mother who manages the station. Mongolian director Sakhya previously won Busan’s New Currents Award in 2013 with Remote Control and is also known for Bedridden, which screened in competition at Tallinn Black Nights.
A total of 30 prizes were announced during a ceremony at the Signiel Busan Grand Ballroom on Wednesday night.
Further multiple award winners included South Korean features Full Moon and Beyond Love’s Horizon, with both landing a hat-trick of prizes.
Jeong Jihye’s Full Moon won the CGV Award, K-Movie Award and Songwon Vision Audience Award – Korea for a combined cash prize of $30,000. The story follows a middle schooler and dancer who struggles after an on-stage costume mishap. It marks the second feature of Jeong after debut Jeong-sun premiered at San Sebastian in 2022 before winning the grand prize in Jeonju’s Korean competition and grand jury prize at Rome Film Festival.
Park Songyeol’s Beyond Love’s Horizon picked up the KBS Independent Film Award, Critic b Award – each worth $7,500 (KRW10m) – and Actor of the Year for Won Hyangra, who went home with $3,700 (KRW5m).
Director Park stars alongside Won in the story of a married couple who are faced with the challenges of pregnancy, childbirth and raising their baby. The awards wins nearly exactly repeat 2021, when he won the Critic b Award and KBS Independent Film Award in Busan with Hot In Day Cold At Night.
Winning two awards apiece were Sailesh Rathnakumar’s Indian home-care worker drama Selvi, which won a Hylife Vision Award and Taipei Film Commission Award; and Oh Sehyeon’s rural Korean drama Baler, which picked up the Jeong-In Award and Citizen Critics’ Award.
The 31st Busan International Film Festival will award its main Competition prizes on October 15.
