Neon has acquired US and Caribbean rights to the sci-fi comedy Robots starring Shailene Woodley and Jack Whitehall.

Anthony Hines and Casper Christensen co-direct and co-wrote the screenplay about a womaniser and a gold digger who must team up and go after robot versions of themselves who have fallen for each other.

The screenplay is based on a short story by Robert Sheckley. Hines co-wrote Borat Subsequent Moviefilm and Christensen co-wrote the Danish comedy Klown.

Producers are Stephen Hamel at Company Films, which developed the project, and Cassian Elwes. It is understood the film will open in May although Neon had not confirmed at time of writing.

Rocket Science launched international sales at the 2021 Cannes market and CAA Media Finance jointly represented US rights with Elwes’ Elevated. Rocket Science’s Thorsten Schumacher and Jere Hausfater serve as executive producers.

Neon recently acquired Sundance entry Eileen starring Thomasin McKenzie and Anne Hathaway. Its distribution slate includes May release Sanctuary with Margaret Qualley and Christopher Abbott.
