The latest funding round from European film support body Eurimages has backed new features by Justine Triet, Mia Hansen-Love, Cristian Mungiu and Bertrand Bonello.

The titles include Fonda, scheduled to shoot this spring, which will become French filmmaker Triet’s first film since her 2023 Oscar-winning Anatomy Of A Fall.

Fonda, which receives the joint-largest award of €500,000 ($579,700), is a psychological thriller set in a seemingly idyllic ’huis clos’ (literally, an enclosed space such as a room or cell).

The cast includes Mia Goth, Allison Janney, Andrew Scott, Frank Dillane and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, for French production companies Les Films de Pierre and Les Films Pelleas, sold by mk2 Films, and financed, co-produced and released in key territories by Studiocanal.

Hansen-Love’s If Love Should Die also receives €500,000. The Ireland-France-Spain-Poland co-production is a biopic of 18th-century English writer, philosopher, and women’s rights advocate Mary Wollstonecraft.

Further Eurimages-backed projects include Tales Of The Golden Age 3 from Romanian filmmakers Mungiu and Ioana Maria Uricaru. Mungiu’s upcoming Fjord, starring Renate Reinsve and Sebastian Stan, is widely tipped for a Cannes slot.

Also backed by Eurimages is Bonello’s Vatican thriller Santo Subito, starring Mark Ruffalo as Joseph Murolo, a US-born priest summoned to serve as the devil’s advocate in the investigation of Pope John Paul II’s life and potential sainthood.

The Eurimages selection includes one UK filmmaker – Ben Pearce, director of Ireland-Belgium-Poland co-production A Few Miles South. Pearce previously directed a 2021 short of the same name, about two mappers trapped during a blizzard in the Golden Age of Arctic exploration in 1911.

The Eurimages fund is backing 32 feature films, including two documentaries and one animation, at a total of €9.8m ($11.4m), in what is its first project evaluation session of 2026.

Seventeen of the 32 features will be directed or co-directed by women, and they are receiving 60% of the total funding awarded.
