Deathgasm II: Goremageddon

EXCLUSIVE: Toronto-based genre film specialist Raven Banner will show Cannes buyers a sneak peek of Deathgasm II: Goremageddon before the film is expected to debut at festivals this autumn.

Jason Lei Howden wrote and directed the follow-up to his 2015 SXSW selection Deathgasm and is in post on the New Zealand-Canada co-production.

The original film centred on a pair of metalheads who formed a band called Deathgasm and summoned a dark spirit to liven up their lives. In the sequel, one of the bandmembers, Brodie, wants to enter a battle of the bands and returns to a dark magic book to summon his dead bandmates – all in the hopes of winning back his ex.

Howden, who also wrote and directed Guns Akimbo starring Daniel Radcliffe and Samara Weaving, shot the sequel with assistance from Creative Sask last summer in Regina, Canada. The film features the return of the original cast – Milo Cawthorne, Kimberley Crossman, James Blake, Sam Berkley and Daniel Cresswell – alongside a sprinkling of cameos.

Producers are Andrew T Hunt of Raven Banner Entertainment, Nick Garrett and Mark J. Cassidy of Fish.Ent, and Tony Hyrnchuk of Fahrenheit Films. Executive producers are Michael Paszt, James Fler, and Pasha Patriki of Hangar 18 Media, Joshua Viola and Klayton of Bit Bot Media, Michael Vasicek, and music video director BJ McDonnell.

Matthew Kiichi Heafy, best known as the frontman of metal band Trivium, composed the film’s score.

“I’m so thrilled to be continuing the Deathgasm universe and bring the evil-crushing power of metal to new and existing audiences,” said Howden. “Like we saw with Eddie Munson in Stranger Things, not all heroes wear capes. Some wear Anthrax tees and denim vests.”
