Ryan Gosling at Comic-Con

Disney executives have scheduled Untitled Ghost Rider with Ryan Gosling in a 2028 release slate that appears on paper at least to rival any previous year in the studio’s storied history.

The tentpole will open on July 28 2028 and was among the upcoming features name-checked at the studio’s annual D23 convention in Anaheim, Southern California, over the weekend, after Gosling was confirmed in the role at Comic-Con in San Diego last month.

Gosling reunites with Shawn Levy, his director on the May 28 2027 summer tentpole Star Wars: Starfighter.

Early summer 2028 brings Untitled X-Men on May 5. Marvel Studios’ first stab at the iconic franchise since Dark Phoenix in 2019, when Disney closed its acquisition of 20th Century Studios, stars Adam Driver and a host of young talent including Sadie Sink and Inde Navarrette from summer smashes Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Obsession, respectively, as well as Samara Weaving and Kit Connor.

Summer 2028 also sees Lilo & Stitch 2 open on May 26 followed by Pixar’s The Incredibles 3 on June 16.

Starting the year are Untitled Disney on February 11, Pixar’s Ghost Market on March 10, and the live-action remake of the hit 2010 Rapunzel adaptation Tangled on March 31.

Late 2028 brings the November 22 release of Clay starring Kieran Culkin in the animated story of a man tasked to serve as mentor to a ball of clay as they journey through a magical forest. Black Panther 3 starring recently-announced UK actor and former Screen Star Of Tomorrow David Jonsson is scheduled for December 15.

Searchlight Pictures horror film Monitor moves up two weeks to April 16 2027, the year when the studio has scheduled Avengers: Secret Wars, Frozen 3, The Simpsons and Bluey films, Pixar’s Gatto, and Ice Age: Boiling Point. Coming in 2029 are Untitled Marvel on November 9 and Pixar’s Coco 2 on November 21.

Disney’s biggest year at the box office was $13bn worldwide in 2019 when the studio’s slate included Avengers: Endgame, Frozen II, Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker, and The Lion King. The company just crossed $4bn at the global box office and has Hexed and Avengers: Doomsday coming out later this year.
