Leading Serbian documentary maker Mila Turajlić is one of the seven filmmakers with projects selected for the 2026 edition of Uniqa See Future Foundation’s Female Filmmakers Support Programme.
The programme, run in co-operation with Sarajevo Film Festival and Slano, is providing a total of €180,000 support for the participants.
Turajlić, whose previous work includes IDFA winner The Other Side Of Everything, was selected with new project Citizens Of Beauty, produced by Belgrade-based Dribling Pictures.
Romanian director Ilinca Calugareanu’s new feature doc, Anatomy Of Indifference, produced by Tangaj Production, has also been chosen. Calugareanu is best known for her Sundance title, Chuck Norris Vs Communism (2015), about the popularity of US action movies in Romania during the communist dictatorship.
The other selected filmmakers are Serbian writer-director Marta Popivoda for her essay film Body In Plural, produced through Theory At Work, that explores dance and social activism; Bosnian director Una Gunjak for her new feature, How Melissa Blew A Fuse, produced by SCCA/pro.ba; Montenegrin filmmaker Katarina Bulajić with Leech, which is being produced by Giggling Goat Production; Serbian auteur Jelena Maksimović with Until The Day Ends, produced by Taurunum Film, and Croatia’s Daria Blaževic with The Swamp, made through Kadromat.
The Female Filmmakers Support Programme was launched at Slano Film Days in 2024. It supports women filmmakers from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Romania, and Bulgaria by providing them with funding and mentorship. Selected participants are invited to join the industry, training and skills programme CineLink Industry Days, taking place at the Sarajevo International Film Festival in August.
The seven selected projects were announced in the presence of international guests and industry executives during Slano Film Days.
