EXCLUSIVE: The British Society of Cinematographers (BSC) has nominated five cinematographers for its feature film award, including those of Sinners and One Battle After Another.

Autumn Durald Arkapaw is nominated for Ryan Coogler’s Sinners. The film won the cinematic and box office achievement award at last night’s Golden Globes in Hollywood, and has made almost $370m worldwide since its release in April last year by Warner Bros.

Michael Bauman is nominated for Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, also released by Warner Bros. Bauman previously shot Anderson’s 2021 drama Licorice Pizza, and has worked in the camera department on several previous Anderson projects.

Further nominees in the feature film category are Seamus McGarvey for Lynne Ramsay’s Die My Love, Dan Laustsen for Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, and Darius Khondji for Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme.

One-shot series Adolescence continues its awards recognition, with Matthew Lewis nominated for cinematography in a television drama (international/streaming) for ‘episode two’; alongside cinematographers from Black Mirror, Severance, Task and The Studio.

The BSC cinematography in a feature film award is the second-oldest major industry award issued for cinematography, behind the equivalent Oscar. Lol Crawley won last year’s award for The Brutalist, and went on to win the Bafta and Oscar in the cinematography categories.

“2025 represented an extraordinary year for artistry in our craft, and the nominations announced today reflect not only the range of projects but also how global Cinematography has become,” said Christopher Ross, president of the BSC.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel on Saturday, February 7.

A previously announced lifetime achievement award will go to Remi Adefarasin, cinematographer of films including Elizabeth and Match Point.
