Studio TF1 is ramping up its presence in the UK and around the world with the appointmennt of  former 42 and Universal exec David O’Donoghue to the role of London-based executive vice president of international.

He will report to CEO Pierre Branco.

O’Donoghue, longtime head of studio for Universal International Studios and most recently COO at UK-US outfit 42, is tasked with expanding the company’s scope beyond France and collaborating with the group’s production companies around the world.

He has also worked as COO and joint managing director at UK TV production outfit Carnival Films, which has credits including Downton Abbey and The Last Kingdom.

“[O’Donoghue’s] experience with major players like Universal Studios and Carnival Films, along with his in-depth knowledge of the English and American media markets, will be invaluable in accelerating our international expansion and IP strategy,” said Branco. “His arrival underscores Studio TF1’s ambition to further establish itself as a global leader in the media industry.”

The move comes following a major rebrand for Studio TF1, formerly Newen Studios, earlier this year. It has outlined ambitious plans to expand its cinema division by doubling film production over the next two years, launching theatrical distribution for its own titles, and announcing a complete reorganisation of its film and audiovisual structure.

The group’s cinema division is targeting production on 10-15 films per year and will launch theatrical distribution for its productions in France in 2026.

Studio TF1 owns some 50 production companies across the globe including the UK’s Ringside Studios, Rise Films, Joi Productions, and Slate Entertainment and Canada’s Reel One.

O’Donoghue called Studio TF1 “a group with real ambition for growth and such commitment to producing for audiences around the world.” He added: “The opportunity to collaborate with the studio’s outstanding producers across Europe , Canada and the US is truly unique, and I look forward to working with the teams in Paris and beyond as we continue to build an ambitious and international slate.”
