American Film Market (AFM) organisers have announced that the first unified theme of the annual event will play out at this year’s edition (November 10-15) under the heading of ‘The New Global Screen Economy’.
The market, which returns to Fairmont Century Plaza in Century City, Los Angeles, will position itself around the shifts that are shaping how content is financed, produced, distributed, and brought to audiences worldwide.
Jackie Brenneman, president and CEO of AFM producer Independent Film And Television Alliance (IFTA), said, “Our business is at an inflection point, and we can’t move forward by looking backward. We need to take a more deliberate approach and focus on creating new opportunities. That is a central role AFM plays.”
Brenneman said she participant commitments reflected “the momentum building across the industry”, adding: “With ‘The New Global Screen Economy’, we are creating a framework for the full spectrum of the industry to come together, align, and shape what comes next.”
The executive will speak on two panels at the Cannes Marché next week addressing the future of Hollywod cinema and piracy in the age of AI.
AFM said on Wednesday that 90 exhibitors were already confirmed to attend in November including AGC Studios, A Higher Standard, Anton, Charades, Cornerstone Films, Epic Pictures, Film Mode Entertainment, Global Constellation, Mister Smith, StudioCanal, and XYZ Films.
Further details are expected to be announced in the coming months.
