
TIFF: The Market top brass have outlined the inaugural event’s programming agenda encompassing pitch sessions, an international financing and project market, and an IP exchange bringing together film and TV studios with right-holders from publishing, gaming, and immersive media.
The inaugural market runs September 10-16 in Toronto and includes a multi-day Speakers Summit, labs for directors and writers, Series Creators’ Lab for Canadian series creator teams from underrepresented communities, and Innovation Hub featuring XR and headset-free interactive and narrative-based experiences.
The Market will also feature an Innovation Hub showcasing the best in immersive storytelling, an International Financing & Project Market and an IP Exchange, both in partnership with Ontario Creates.
The event will also present the TIFF-CBC Films Screenwriter Award supporting emerging Canadian screenwriting talent and character-driven stories offering a $15,000 CAD (approximately USD $10,870) award and mentorship opportunities.

Directors’ Lab supporting directorial debutants
Writers’ Lab for emerging screenwriters. The programme includes workshops, table reads, peer mentorship, one-on-one consultations, and script polishing with a development executive.
Series Creators’ Lab to empower Canadian series creator teams from underrepresented communities and elevate premium episodic television IP for production and global distribution.
Innovation Hub: Designed space featuring a selection of curated projects with the year’s best XR and headset-free innovative, interactive, and narrative-based experiences.
IP Exchange: Exclusive meetings between publishing, gaming, and immersive media intellectual property holders and film and series production companies and studios. IP Exchange is supported by Ontario Creates.
Sloan Science & Technology Writers’ Fellowship: This $35,000 CAD CAD (approximately USD $25,370) fellowship shines a bright light on science and technology-focused feature-length projects, equipping creators with industry connections and creative support to strengthen their chances of joining the Writers’ Lab.
Sloan Science & Technology Project Pitch: Along with a $15,000 award CAD (approximately USD $10,870) , creators will pitch their science or technology-themed feature film or episodic project in front of a live audience and panel of producers and buyers.
TIFF-CBC Films Screenwriter Award: Designed to support Canada’s emerging screenwriting talent and character-driven stories that represent Canadian perspectives, this $15,000 CAD (approximately USD $10,870) award and mentorship opportunities will help the recipient move their project from script to screen.
