
Warner Bros’ horror Lee Cronin’s The Mummy opens in UK and Ireland cinemas this weekend as event titles dominate new releases.
The Mummy is launching in 550 locations. A reimagining of the horror franchise from the 1930s and 40s, the film follows a father whose daughter returns eight years after disappearing in the desert.
Cronin previously directed 2023’s Evil Dead Rise which opened on £1.5m from 587 cinemas. Jack Reynor and Laia Costa star in The Mummy which is also produced by horror juggernaut James Wan, whose credits include The Conjuring, Saw and M3GAN franchises.
National Theatre Live’s All My Sons is the widest release of the weekend, opening in 797 sites including non-cinema venues like community centres. The filmed version of the Arthur Miller play, which recently ran in the West End, stars Bryan Cranston as a businessman who sold defective airplane parts during the Second World War. Marianne Jean-Baptiste and Paapa Essiedu also star.
Further event releases include live concert BTS World Tour Arirang In Japan, screening in 257 venues from tomorrow (April 18) and comedy show Paul Smith: Pablo Live in 230.

Elsewhere, Bridget Jones’s Diary is being re-released in 535 locations. The British romantic comedy starring Renee Zellweger grossed £42.1m on its original release back in 2001.

Brian Cox’s directorial debut Glenrothan opens in 470 sites via Lionsgate. Cox also stars in the feature alongside Alan Cumming as two estranged brothers who reconnect in Scotland. The film premiered in Toronto.
Anime Ltd is screening a special re-release of the 1988 sci-fi Akira in 412 cinemas. Katsuhiro Otomo’s Japanese anime follows the leader of a biker gang whose childhood friend acquires telekinetic abilities.
Animated title Time Hoppers: The Silk Road launches in 299 venues for Miracle Comms and Dazzler. The film follows four gifted children from The Aqli Academy who stumble upon time travel.
Bill Condon’s Kiss Of The Spider Woman is opening in 145 locations via Sony. The musical drama premiered at Sundance in 2025 and follows two political prisoners who form an unlikely bond as they recount a Hollywood musical starring Ingrid Luna, who is played by Jennifer Lopez.
In Indian cinema, Bakrania Media is opening comedies Bhoot Bangla and Khushkhabri in 127 sites.
Trinity Film and CineAsia have martial arts titles Blades Of The Guardians: Wind Rises In The Desert in 76 cinemas.
Jude Law portrays Vladimir Putin in Oliver Assayas’s The Wizard of the Kremlin which Signature Entertainment opens in 58 locations. The Venice premiere is set during the final years of the Soviet Union and the turbulent start of the Russian Federation. Paul Dano, Alicia Vikander and Jeffrey Wright also star.
Studiocanal is opening French drama Colours Of Time in 29 sites. The coming-of-age film premiered in Cannes last year and follows four cousins who inherit a house in rural Normandy.
Documentary Kinaesthesia launches in four venues via Tull Stories. Gerald Fox’s film celebrates the centenary of the “dream film” in cinema.
