UK cinema event specialist Secret Cinema is building a permanent venue in the Greenwich Peninsula, south London.
The space is scheduled to open in late 2026, subject to planning permission, according to a statement on the Secret Cinema website, which was also sent to the company’s mailing list.
Secret Cinema describes the venue as “a space designed specifically for immersive storytelling and built to support more ambitious productions and sustained programming over time.”
The company is working with architect Danny Lane from UK firm Studio DJL on designing the space, alongside other designers and collaborators.
“Our proposed flagship venue will form part of this growing destination and is a space designed to attract audiences from London, across the UK and internationally,” read the Secret Cinema statement.
Founded in 2007, Secret Cinema established itself as a leading name in the immersive cinema experience sector. The firm hosted screenings of films, at initially undisclosed London venues, that included interactive elements, including purpose-built sets, cast members, and extensive food and beverage options.
Some Secret Cinema events sold out across several-month runs, with attendances of over 100,000. The company’s premium experience pricing meant some titles brought in high box office yields, including 2019’s Casino Royale (£8.4m), 2015’s Star Wars - The Empire Strikes Back (£6.3m) and 2018’s Blade Runner: The Final Cut (£4.8m).
The company was acquired by TodayTix Group in 2022. Its upcoming events include Grease: The Immersive Movie Musical in London’s Battersea Park this summer.
