Synchronicity Films and Macgwoan Films, in association with Del Rio Films, have announced they are co-producing psychological thriller The Devil’s Staircase.

Tine Klint’s LevelK has boarded the project for international sales in their After Dark strand, continuing their ongoing relationship with Synchronicity Films with whom they are working on a number of projects including John McKay’s Not Another Happy Ending and Justin Molotnikov’s Blood Or Water.

The adaptation will be helmed by Sergio Casci from the novel of the same name by best selling Scotland based Australian novelist Helen Fitzgerald.

Billed as “elevated film noir,” The Devil’s Staircase is a psychological thriller about a young Australian girl with a big secret who runs away to London before breaking into a abandoned London townhouse with a group of backpackers, seeking a rent-free life of debauchery. She’s never taken drugs, had sex or killed anyone. Within six weeks she’s done all three.

The film will be produced by Claire Mundell for Synchronicity, and Marian Macgowan for Macgowan Films.

The UK - Australian co-production will shoot in Scotland and Australia late 2012.
