The project, to be based on an Oscar Wilde short story, has received funding from the Irish Film Board.

Irish director Catherine Owens is developing a feature adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s children’s short story, The Selfish Giant, to be shot in 3D.

The project, which will combine 3D live action, motion capture and animation, has received development funding from the Irish Film Board.

Owens, who directed the 2008 live action feature U23D and is currently in post production on a 3D documentary set in India, is now looking for a Hollywood studio partner on the project.

“As a much-loved piece of work from one of Ireland’s greatest writers, I will adapt the story appropriately for cinematic treatment, with the added addition of carefully crafted digital 3D production values to enhance the universal themes of the story,” said Owens.
