The Oscar winning star of The Fighter will join Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner and Amy Adams on the ensemble drama.

Cooper stars opposite Jennifer Lawrence on Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook, the Toronto audience award winner and awards contender. Adams appeared in The Fighter alongside Bale.

Russell is writing the screenplay with Eric Warren Singer based on Singer’s original script. Production is scheduled to begin mid-February on the East Coast.

The story follows true events in the life of a notorious financial con artist and his partner in crime who were forced to work with an AWOL Federal agent and turn in other criminals.

Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven and Richard Suckle will produce alongside Annapurna Pictures’ Megan Ellison and Ted Schipper. Jon Gordon, who most recently produced Silver Linings Playbook, will serve as executive producer with Cooper and Singer.

Annapurna Pictures is fully financing the film, which has been set for release in late 2013. Columbia will handle US distribution and Panorama Media handles international pre-sales and cut a multi-territory deal with Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions.
