The New York and LA-based company has lined up its latest prestige project and will finance and handle international sales on The Rules Of Inheritance from Susanne Bier to star Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence. CAA negotiated the deal with FilmNation, packaged the project and represents US rights.

Abi Morgan of Shame and The Iron Lady fame will write the screenplay based on Claire Bidwell Smith’s memoir about a young woman who discovers herself after both her parents die from cancer.

Bruce Cohen, whose credits include Silver Linings Playbook, American Beauty and Milk, will produce alongside Lawrence while FilmNation will serve as executive producer.

“We are thrilled to be working with the dream team of Jennifer Lawrence, Susanne Bier, Abi Morgan and Bruce Cohen,” said FilmNation’s Glen Basner and Aaron Ryder.

“We have no doubt that this inspirational and hopeful book will be turned into an emotionally powerful movie that audiences around the world will fall in love with.”

“Jennifer, Susanne, Abi and I are incredibly excited to be working on this extraordinary project together,” said Cohen. “We all believe this film can strike a deeply resonant chord with audiences, just as Claire’s riveting memoir has.”

FilmNation evp of worldwide production Allison Silver brought the project to FilmNation. The company most recently handled international sales on the three recent Cannes entries All Is Lost, Nebraska and The Bling Ring.
