Film is the latest from Spanish Movie director Javier Ruiz Caldera

Fox International Productions has joined Javier Ruiz Caldera’s hotly anticipated family comedy Ghost Graduation (Promocion Fantasma) as backers of the project and distributors in Spain.

Ghost Graduation tells the story of a teacher who suffers from spectral visions which have bothered him from the age of 15. One day he is put in charge of five troubled pupils who have specific issues relevant to him – but all are dead.

Production duties are split between Mod Producciones, the team behind Agora and Oscar nominee Biutiful, Ikiru Films (Lope, The Kid), Ciudadano Ciskul and Think Studio, which co-produced Caldera’s previous comedy Spanish Movie, which made an impressive $11m in Spain and sold all over the world through Filmax.

The project is also being backed by broadcasters TVE, AXN, Canal +, TVC and ONO, which will be investing in film for the first time as part of new Spanish government regulations requiring local telecommunications outfits to invest 0.9% of their annual income in film production.

The cast includes local talent Raul Arevalo (Even The Rain), Alejandra Jimenez (Spanish Movie) and Carlos Areces (The Last Circus). Shooting will take place in Madrid over seven weeks and the film is due for release in Spain through Hispano Foxfilm in 2012.

Vicente Canales’ outfit Film Factory Entertainment is handling sales on the project and will present a first promo reel at AFM.
