President of worldwide production Tucker Tooley announced the project at Comic-Con on Thursday (21).

The studio optioned rights from World Event Productions and will adapt the 1984 animated series Voltron: Defender Of The Universe after Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven and Richard Suckle brought it in.

Atlas will shepherd the project based on the property about five young warriors charged with defending the galaxy and pilot robotic vessels that when combined from the formidable Voltron weapon.

Roven and Suckle will produce with Kickstart Entertainment’s Jason Netter. World Events Productions’ Ted Koplar will serve as executive producer.

Thomas Dean Donnelly, who wrote the upcoming Lionsgate release Conan The Barbarian, co-wrote the screenplay with Joshua Oppenheimer.

World Events Productions was represented in the deal by UTA.
