The $67,000 (50,000 euros) award for documentary film-makers is being launched at Sundance.

Morgan Spurlock and Queen Noor of Jordan will be amongst the jury members for a new documentary award which is being launched in Sundance by the Channel 4 Britdoc Foundation and sports company PUMA.

The PUMA. Creative Impact Award aims to honour documentary film makers creating a significant impact in the world. It is part of an ongoing partnership between PUMA and Channel 4 Britdoc, which was launched in September and includes a series of documentary initiatives.

Submissions for the award, which is open to film-making teams from around the world who can demonstrate evidence of their film’s social impact, will open on January 21. Films can be put forward up to three years after their release, so docs such as The Cove and The Age Of Stupid are still eligible.

Morgan Spurlock said he was “proud to be invited to join the first jury and I encourage documentary filmmakers everywhere to take a look at this initiative. It is really going to make a difference.”

“With a financial reward that encourages best practice in the filmmaking community, the aim of the PUMA.Creative Impact Award is to draw attention to the finest creative, social justice, peace and environmental filmmaking in the world” added Jess Search, CEO, Channel 4 BRITDOC Foundation.

The award will be given in London at the annual PUMA.Creative and Channel 4 BRITDOC Foundation Gala in October.
