Dad, Tilva Ros, Mother Of Asphalt up for regional Bauer Award

Croatia’s Motovun Film Festival has announced the nominees for its regional Bauer Award, its main competition line-up and Ireland as the partner company for its 12th edition, running July 25-29.

The Bauer Award for the best film in theatrical distribution in the countries of the former Yugoslavia was established last year. After two rounds of voting by film professionals from the region the nominees are Nikola Lezaic’s Tilva Rosh from Serbia, winner of best film and best actor for Marko Todorovic at last year’s Sarajevo Film Festival; Vlado Skafar’s Dad, the first Slovenian film ever selected for Venice Critics Week, in 2010; and Dalibor Matanic’s Mother Of Asphalt from Croatia, winner of the FIPA d’Or, best actress for Marija Skaricic and best music for Jura Ferina and Pavao Miholjevic at FIPA in Biarritz.

The winner will be chosen by a jury consisting of film directors Faruk Loncarevic (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Agim Sopi (Kosovo), Goran Devic (Croatia), Damjan Kozole (Slovenia), Teona Mitevska (Macedonia), Marija Perovic (Montenegro) and Serbian actress Nada Sargin.

The winning film will receive a cash prize of $7,040 (Euros 5,000) from the festival and $14,079 (Euros 10,000) in post-production services from Slovenia’s Teleking.

Motovun has also announced that it will screen the world premiere of One Woman – One Century, the new film by veteran Serbian auteur Zelimir Zilnik, out of competition.

The main competition for the Motovun Propeller Award includes Michael R. Roskam’s Bullhead, Derek Cianfrance’s Blue Valentine, John Michael McDonagh’s The Guard, Stephane Lafleur’s Familiar Ground, Julie Bertuccelli’s The Tree, Andrei Zvyagintsev’s Elena, Marcino Islas Hernandez’s Martha, Ian Power’s The Runway, Vladimir Blazevski’s Punk’s Not Dead, Alex de la Iglesia’s Sad Trumpet Ballad, Misa Radivojevic’s How I Was Stolen By The Germans (Serbia) and Aldo Tardozzi’s Spots (Croatia).

Every year Motovun has a partner country, which includes a sidebar programme focusing on its film, music and culture. This year’s partner will be Ireland and the festival will screen 13 prominent Irish features, documentaries and shorts from the last three years, selected by Simon Perry.

The special Motovun Maverick Award that celebrates unconventionality will be given to the Austrian director Ulrich Seidl. Previous winners of the award include Ken Russell and Terry Jones.
