Elle Driver bulks up slate, The Words sparks interest

The French sales agency has acquired international rights to Twenty-Eight Hotel Rooms which screens on Saturday (21), while Bradley Cooper drama The Words energised the domestic scene in the morning following a packed buyers screening.

Elle Driver’s acquisition means Twenty-Eight Hotel Rooms joins a Sundance slate that includes Bachelorette and Young And Wild. Preferred Content handles North American sales to Matt Ross’ drama about a novelist and a corporate accountant who have an affair during a business trip.

Lynette Howell, Louise Runge and Samantha Housman produced the Silverwood Films presentation of an Onezero Films production, made in association with Sundial Pictures and Mott Street Pictures. Chris Messina and Marin Ireland star.

The major domestic distributors attended the Holiday Village screening of The Words, the feature directorial debut of Tron: Legacy writers Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal. Buyers in attendance included Open Road, LD Distribution, SPWA, RADiUS-TWC – the Weinsteins’ new distribution pipeline headed by Tom Quinn and Jason Janego – CBS Films, Fox Searchlight and Lionsgate.

Depending on which buyer will be drawn on the subject, the producers are asking in the region of $3m or $4-6m for US rights. Cassian Elwes and CAA represent US rights and Parlay Films has pre-sold many international territories including Germany to Wild Bunch, FIP to France, Becker to Australia and Planeta to Spain.

Bradley Cooper stars as a writer who becomes rich and famous after he passes off a brilliant lost manuscript as his own work. Zoe Saldana, Jeremy Irons, Olivia Wilde, Dennis Quaid and Ben Barnes round out the key cast.

Looking ahead to the rest of Saturday anticipated screenings include Park Pictures’ Robot And Frank, Arbitrage starring Richard Gere and Stephen Frears’ Lay The Favorite with Bruce Willis and Rebecca Hall. Friday screenings Celeste And Jesse Forever and The Pact drew interest and talks were ongoing.
