Back Up unlocks Movie Chainer

Company currently beta testing rights management application ahead of April 30 live launch.

Paris-based film financier Backup Media has announced it will launch its dedicated film content and rights management software Movie Chainer on April 30, two weeks ahead of the Cannes Film Festival.

The innovative, cloud-based application — developed in-house by Backup in response to its own needs — enables audiovisual rights-holders to track contracts, generate exploitation and availability reports and calculate revenue splits and repayment schedules in a highly synthesised and visual manner.

All the user has to do is input the initial contract details. “That’s the sort of job interns end up doing so we’ve made it as intern friendly and proof as possible,” commented Backup’s project developer Jean Roman.

Headaches over the allocation of receipts, he says, will become a thing of the past thanks to detailed distribution waterfall graphics enabling the user to project at which point and how much a film’s various participants should be repaid at the click of a mouse.

“The App is somewhat revolutionary in that it makes invisible data a lot more visible. Anyone struggling with time and too much information can easily dig up and synthesise layers of information and transform that into real and viable intelligence,” said Backup’s Roman.

A handful of sales companies and producers are already beta testing the new software ahead of its launch in April.

The Cannes Marché’s database and networking platform Cinando will host and support the April launch – enabling Cinando users to seamlessly transfer their data over to the Movie Chainer system.

The first live version of Movie Chainer will be available free-of-charge to all industry professionals for a maximum of three projects.

A demo version and presentation video of the software is available on www.moviechainer.com as of today (Feb 9).

“There are vital aspects in the life of media distribution that are completely out of reach of some people who don’t have the infrastructure to help them manage the exploitation of their projects at full strength — with Movie Chainer we are offering an opportunity to avoid these situations,” commented Backup co-founder Joel Thibout.
