Drafthouse Films acquires US rights to The Act Of Killing
Joshua Oppenheimer’s Danish documentary premiered at Telluride and Toronto and enlists former members of the Indonesian death squad to reenact their atrocities in a range of cinematic genres.
Drafthouse plans a 30-market theatrical release and 2013 awards campaign.
“The Act Of Killing is a landmark acquisition for us,” said Drafthouse Films CEO Tim League. “No other film at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival made a comparable residual impression.”
Signe Byrge Sørensen of Final Cut For Real produced. League, James Emanuel Shapiro and Evan Husney negotiated the deal with Philippa Kowarsky of Cinephil on behalf of the producers.
