Universal Pictures has picked up global rights to Sebastian Dehnhardt’s documentary Klitschko about the boxing brothers Vitaly and Vladimir.

The deal was put together by Universal’s director of international acquisitions Aurelie de Troyer and New York agent Oliver Mahrdt of Hanns Wolters International.

The theatrical documentary, which is Cologne-based Broadview Pictures’ first production for the cinema, had its world premiere at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival where HBO secured the US rights.

It was released by Majestic Filmverleih in German cinemas last June.

The East European premiere in the brothers’ native Ukraine in the capital of Kiev was held last night (Tuesday, March 13) in front of 500 guests before the official release tomorrow (Thursday, 15).

A theatrical release in the UK for the film is scheduled for this May.
