3D family film already a hit in Germany and sells widely.
Sola Media’s animated German 3D family/children’s film Knight Rusty screens today at Filmart with the ink still drying on a stack of contracts signed since its world premiere at EFM in Berlin and its inclusion in Cartoon Movie in the UK.
Korea (Apex), Poland (Kino Swiat), Israel (Five Star), Hungary (Cinetel), Turkey (Siyahbeyaz Movies), CIS (Big Movies) and others in Eastern Europe are among the territories sold. Sola’s Tania Pinto Da Cunha said negotiations are underway with a Chinese company.
The film has reached 600,000 admissions in Germany for Universum since opening in fifth place overall, putting it ahead of Sammy 2 and Niko 2.
The film’s title character is accused of theft just as he is about to enter a tournament he dreams of winning; requiring him to win back his honour, his castle and the heart of a damsel.
Director Thomas Bodenstein had in mind children aged five to nine years, and their parents, when he directed the film. “What makes this movie special is its mixture of scrap (metal), Middle Ages, robots and whimsical characters,” he says.
Producer Gabriele M Walther wrote the script with Mark Slater and her Munich-based production company Caligari is currently producing a television series with the same characters.
The 85-minute film is based on the novels of Jörg Hilbert and Felix Janosa. The themes include recycling, friendship and courage.
