Sony Pictures Classics has acquired all US rights to the shortlisted Dutch film Winter In Wartime from High Point Films.
Martin Koolhoven’s world war two story centres on a 13-year-old boy who becomes involved with the Resistance after he helps a wounded British soldier.
In the process he learns the difference between adventure fantasy and the ugly realities of war. The film is based on Jan Terlouw’s novel. Els Vandevorst and San Fu Maltha produced.
Sony Pictures Classics’ executive vice-president of acquisitions and production Dylan Leiner brokered the deal with High Point’s director of theatrical sales and marketing Elisar Cabrera.
“This film is the kind of emotionally engaging drama that has consistently achieved success with American audiences,” Sony Pictures Classics said in a statement.
