Hot projects on Screenbase

German director Leander Haussmann’s [pictured] new feature as well as a second film about Norwegian nobleman Peter Wessel Tordenskiold are among the newly added productions this week.

Leander Haußmann and Sven Regener have just started shooting Hai Alarm Am Müggelsee, a satirical comedy centring on events triggered by a shark alarm at Berlin’s Müggelsee – with singing policemen, Polish reporters, shark hunters, and a hand double among other things featuring in the film. Produced by Stefan Arndt, Regener and Haußmann for X-Filme Creative Pool and Müggelfilm Haußmann Regener respectively, the comedy received financial backing from the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg. Regener and Haußmann also joined forces for the script. The film stars Michael Gwisdek, Benno Fürmann, Henry Hübchen, Uwe Dag Berlin and Anna-Maria Hirsch and shooting is scheduled to last until the end of September. X Verleih will handle the release in Germany next year.

Dagur Kári will direct a biopic about the Norwegian 18th century nobleman and naval officer Peter Wessel Tordenskiold. This will be the second feature about him which is currently in development, with Morten Tyldum attached to the eponymously titled rival film. Kári’s version will be produced by Norway’s Motlys AS and Denmark’s Nimbus Film and has a budget of about $7.4m. Erlend Loe wrote the screenplay and principal photography is planned for late 2013.

Tyldum’s Tordenskjold is produced by Norway’s Filmkameratene and Denmark’s Zentropa Productions, based on a script by Mikael Olsen and Gert Duvende Skovlund. It has financial support towards its $12.2m budget from the Norwegian Film Institute. Shooting is scheduled for next summer and SF International handles international sales with SF Norge releasing in Norway.
