The film will explore the traditions of the Irish traveller community, with backing from the Irish Film Board.

It is the second feature from Mark O’Connor, following Between The Canals, which was released in Ireland earlier this year and delved into the underbelly of Dublin’s inner city life.

O’Connor developed King Of The Travellers with Michael Collins, a professional traveller actor. He hopes the film will “dispel some of the myths and negative portrayals of the travelling community in Irish society.”

Newcomer John Connors stars alongside Michael Collins, Peter Coonan, Packy Lee Thomas Collins, Carla McGlynn, Mick Foran and Stephen Jones.

King of the Travellers is a co-production between Vico Films, Stalker Films and Black Sheep Productions and produced with financing from the Irish Film Board, the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland’s Sound & Vision Fund and TV3.Cormac Fox is producing, with John Wallace executive producing.

The film will complete its post-production in ScreenScene in spring 2012.
