Monsters Vs Aliens director Rob Letterman will take the reins on Universal’s action adaptation Stretch Armstrongstarring Taylor Lautner.

Nick Stoller will rewrite the screenplay based on the Hasbro toy figure, popular in the 1970s, who stood 13 inches tall and could stretch to nearly four feet.

Stoller’s credits include Forgetting Sarah Marshall and the upcoming summer release Get Him To The Greek. Steve Oedekerk wrote the original Stretch Armstrong screenplay. Letterman and Stoller recently collaborated on Gulliver’s Travels, which Fox is due to release in December.

Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer and Hasbro’s Brian Goldner and Bennett Schneir are producing and Imagine’s Kim Roth serves as executive producer. Universal’s senior executive vice-president of production Peter Cramer is overseeing for the studio with director of development Maradith Frenkel.            

Letterman and is Oedekerk are represented by William Morris Endeavor, and Stoller is handled by UTA.
