Sebastian Silva, Daniel Radcliffe boost Killer Films slate

EXCLUSIVE: Killer Films principals Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler are in the midst of their busiest ever production cycle and have funnelled a number of prestige titles into the market this week.

Brian O’Shea’s The Exchange and 6 Sales have been talking up Untitled Sebastian Silva Project, a psycho-thriller that wrapped last week and marks the Chilean director of The Maid’s first English-language feature. Michael Cera, Juno Temple and Emily Browning star in the true story about a young American who begins to unravel while on vacation in remote Chile. Killer is producing with Mike White’s company Ripcord and Braven Films and Frida Torresblanco. UTA Independent represents domestic rights.

Exclusive Media is handling international sales on Ramin Bahrani’s drama At Any Price, a story about an enterprising farmer that stars Zac Efron, Dennis Quaid and Heather Graham and is in post. CAA is the domestic sales agent. Bankside is selling Hilary Brougher’s Innocence, which is set to begin shooting in early June and stars Kelly Reilly and Sophie Curtis in the tale of a private school that houses a vampire sect. Ron Curtis is producing with Killer and CAA handles domestic rights.

Inferno handles international sales on John Krokidas’ Kill Your Darlings, boasting an all-star cast that includes Daniel Radcliffe, Elizabeth Olsen, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Ben Foster. Production has wrapped on the story of murder and a meeting of beat writers Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac and William Burroughs. Michael Benaroya financed and produced and UTA Independent and Cassian Elwes represent domestic rights.

Deep Powder was Killer’s first feature to go into production this year and is produced with former Disney chief Michael Eisner’s Vuguru new media platform. Mo Ogrodnik’s real-life love story is in post and follows a group of students who get busted for drugs in South America. Shiloh Fernandez and Haley Bennett star.

Vachon and Koffler serve as execute producers on two titles, Inescapable and Bluebird. Myriad Pictures is selling the former, a father-daughter thriller from Ruba Nadda that stars Marisa Tomei, shot in South Africa and is in post. Bluebird is a tragic Maine-set story starring John Slattery from first-time director Lance Edmands. The project is also in post sales agents are attached.

Koffler noted that the secret to building an eclectic slate is to remain open to new ideas. “Adaptability has something to do with it”, she said.

Vachon (pictured) highlighted the importance of tenacity and patience. “We’ve been trying really hard to make some of these projects for a long time and sometimes it’s just a question of putting something on the shelf and waiting for it to come round,” she said. “There are a lot of financiers out there who have for really great taste. They are trying to find the kind of high-quality productions that attract A-list talent.”
