Producer Guy Danella and writer Luke Passmore, whose Midnight Madness entry The Day screens for press and industry on Monday at 10am, are adapting Jack Kilborn’s action horror novel Afraid for Gold Circle Films.

Afraid takes place over the course of a single night as a unit of psychopathic murderers trained by the military accidentally crash lands into a one-street town.

Believing they have been dropped behind enemy lines, the unit’s deadly training kicks in as they unleash hell.

Gold Circle’s Paul Brooks will also produce and Scott Niemeyer will serve as executive producer.

“We live in the world of the mash-up and Afraid is going to push the boundaries in every way and rebrand horror,” Danella said. “We’re very excited to continue working with Luke and building his brand. This is a bold project and hopefully the risk will equal the reward.”

Danella and Passmore’s first collaboration, post-apocalyptic war thriller The Day, stars Shawn Ashmore, Ashley Bell, Michael Eklund, Cory Hardrict, Dominic Monaghan and Shannyn Sossamon.

Kevin Iwashina’s Preferred Content represents North American sales rights and Content is handling international on The Day, set to receive its world premiere on Thursday.
