Yash Raj Films to co-produce three with Dibakar Banerjee Productions
India’s Yash Raj Films (YRF) has announced a three picture co-production deal with Dibakar Banerjee Productions. The studio describes the deal as part of what “promises to be a long term strategy”.
Dibakar Banerjee’s credits include directing the low-budget sleeper hit Love, Sex Aur Dhoka (Love, Sex And Betrayal) and the PVR Pictures-backed political thriller Shanghai [pictured] which recently screened at the Toronto International Film Festival.
“This is new, promising and exciting. Adi and I have different and individualistic creative visions while sharing a tremendous synergy in our ambition to take Indian cinema to new milestones at home and abroad. We decided to embark on this venture almost immediately after our very first meeting.” said Banerjee, referring to Aditya Chopra, head of YRF.
“Given my style of film making and YRF’s tremendous presence, reach and experience, this association will merge our respective expertise to create really trendsetting yet entertaining content for a really wide audience. I see tremendous potential in Adi’s concerted plans for getting into co-production agreements with diverse, like-minded filmmakers,” he said.
Although the two companies have yet to confirm specifics, the co-production deal will see two films directed by Banerjee and one by Kanu Behl, a long-time associate who wrote the script for Love, Sex Aur Dhoka.
