China Lion Film Distribution is to release Feng Xiaogang’s If You Are The One 2 in North America simultaneously with its China release on December 24.
The romantic comedy is a sequel to the 2008 hit If You Are The One, starring Ge You and Shu Qi, which grossed $46m in China. It also received a number of awards and nominations including best director at China’s Hundred Flowers Awards.
The sequel will be released in 20 AMC & Cineplex Theatres across the US and Canada in regions with a significant Chinese population including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, Washington DC, Toronto, Vancouver and Ottawa.
China Lion, founded by China-based Jiang Yanming and New Zealand-based Milt Barlow, has an exclusive arrangement to supply AMC with Chinese films.
It will be China Lion’s second US release following Feng’s blockbuster Aftershock which is China’s submission for the best foreign-language film category of the Academy Awards.
