Paramount confirmed the development on Wednesday (July 9) as Transformers: Age Of Extinction reached $225.1m.
The fourth entry in the sci-fi series has amassed 1.396bn RMB in 12 days of release, overtaking the previous record set by Avatar.
Transformers: Age Of Extinction grossed $92m in its opening weekend in China, where the film was partially shot, taking a record opening day on Friday June 27 of $30m.
By Wednesday July 9, the worldwide tally stood at $606.6m, of which $421.2m comes from the international market.
