The Delights Of The Garden

This bittersweet film from comedy veteran Colomo stars Carmen Machi, Antonio Resines and Luis Bermejo in the story of a painter facing financial ruin who reluctantly enters a million-dollar competition to reinterpret Hierony­mus Bosch’s masterpiece ‘The Garden of Earthly Delights’. Produced by Comba Films and Telespan, it is now in production.

The Gentleman

Dir. Luis Gabriel Beristain
Ron Perlman headlines this revenge thriller as a former US soldier living in isolation and tormented by grief. His only connection is the sex worker he pays for companionship, until her murder sets him on a violent mission for justice. The Spain-­Mexico co-production from Esto Tambian Pasara and SDB Films marks the directing debut of cinematographer Beristain.

The Hanged Woman

Dir. Miguel Angel Lamata
Adapted from Mayte Navales’s bestselling novel, this horror film tells the story of a singer, known as the Hanged Woman, who dies by suicide in her former lover’s garden before returning to haunt him and his family. Eduardo Noriega, Amaia Salamanca and Cosette Silguero star in the Bemybaby Films and Imposible Films production, which is now in post.

The Harvester

Dir. David Perez Sañudo
Inspired by Spain’s first known serial killer, the third feature from the award-winning director of Ane Is Missing is set in 1870s northern Spain during the Carlist Wars. When the mutilated bodies of several women are discovered on the outskirts of the town of Vitoria, the sister of one of the victims sets out for justice. The Harverster is produced by La Claqueta and Amania Films.

Leo & Lou

Dir. Carlos Solano
Solano’s feature debut tells the story of a mute orphan who escapes her children’s home and meets a drifter who offers her a ride. They form an unlikely bond as they confront challenges on their journey. Leo & Lou is produced by Zeta Studios with Frida Films, the UK’s Lunatica and Romania’s Motion Picture Management.

Los Tigres

Dir. Alberto Rodriguez
Rodriguez returns with a thriller about two siblings and industrial divers who stumble on a hidden cache of cocaine aboard a cargo ship on the Andalusian coast. It stars Barbara Lennie and Antonio de la Torre, and is produced by Movi­star Plus+ with Kowalski Films, Feelgood Media and France’s Le Pacte. The film is in post-production.

The Portuguese House

Dir. Avelina Prat
After the disappearance of his wife, a teacher assumes a new identity as a gardener at a Portuguese estate, where he strikes up a surprising friendship with its owner. Prat’s latest feature after 2022’s award-­winning Vasil stars Maria de Medeiros and Manolo Solo, and is produced by Distinto Films, O Som e a Furia and Jaibo Films. It screened at the Malaga and Buenos Aires film festivals earlier this year.

The Talent

Dir. Polo Menarguez
This psychological thriller starring Ester Exposito is the second feature from Menarguez and is about a young cellist from a once-wealthy family who faces a disturbing moral dilemma when she is offered a way to save her family. Co-written with Fernando Leon de Aranoa, the film is produced by The Mediapro Studio and Leon’s Reposado PC.

The Treasure Of Barracuda

Dir. Adria Garcia
A family adventure from Inicia Films, which produced Carla Simon’s Summer 1993, this animation feature follows Captain Barracuda and crew member Spark, a girl disguised as a boy, in their search for hidden treasure. Spark’s secret skill, reading, becomes key to decoding a map that leads to the booty’s location. Garcia’s Nocturnawon the 2008 Goya for best animated feature.

The Whisper

Dir. Gustavo Hernandez
The new film from genre specialist Hernandez, whose credits include The Silent House and Virus: 32, is about two siblings hiding from their violent father in a remote mansion. A camera on a cat’s collar reveals the neighbours are kidnappers who are filming snuff movies — and the kids are next. The film is now in post-­production.
