Sales agent, Coproduction Office
- Took a bachelors degree in social and political sciences and a masters in media and creative industries at Sciences Po Paris
- Interned in sales at Wild Bunch (now Goodfellas) in 2018
After completing his degrees at Sciences Po in Paris, Moroccan Cypriot Ibourk’s introduction to the world of international sales came initially through an internship at Goodfellas.
He joined Celluloid Dreams in 2020, working first as a marketing executive before pivoting to sales and focusing on the company’s catalogue title deals for television and streamers. It was working on Panah Panahi’s 2021 Directors’ Fortnight selection Hit The Road, however, that proved “a turning point” for Ibourk, both in terms of seeing the industry start to emerge from the pandemic and getting to work closely with the late Hengameh Panahi.
“We were suddenly filled with so much hope and newfound energy after months of uncertainty,” he says, adding: “I owe Hengameh a lot. She set the bar very high and was an exceptional sales agent and an impressive negotiator.”
After sales stints at Totem Films and Indie Sales, Ibourk joined Coproduction Office in 2024 as the company was preparing for take off on Ruben Östlund’s social satire The Entertainment System Is Down, which he calls “an exciting and challenging moment” and “a career high”.
Ibourk contributed to the sales and marketing strategy for the film and now works alongside Coproduction Office’s head of sales Nadine Rothschild on all of the company’s sales titles, which include Sergei Loznitsa’s current Cannes Competition entry Two Prosecutors.
For Ibourk, “honesty is key”. While film sales is a business that requires generating revenue, he says, “it is really about the films, and finding the right partners to champion our auteurs. It is important to build trusting and longlasting relationships as we all have the same goal, which is to create the most favourable conditions for a film’s success.”
