Frederik Hemmingsen

Sales manager, TrustNordisk

  • Joined the three-year internship programme at Zentropa in 2018
  • Appointed sales manager at TrustNordisk in 2021

Having studied economics for a year at Aarhus University in Herning and working briefly as a bartender in Copenhagen, Hemmingsen landed a spot on the three-year internship programme at Zentropa. However, after only seven months he transferred to TrustNordisk as sales assistant because “they read a lot of scripts and they do it early on”, looking “to learn more about the international perspective of the business”.

Hemmingsen went from junior sales manager to sales manager in 2021 and now handles territories including Latin America, Eastern Europe, Portugal and Greece, working alongside TrustNordisk sales director Nicolai Korsgaard. “I treat my job as account management, and see what different distribution partners need instead of just pitching everything,” he says.

Hemmingsen credits former colleague Silje Nikoline Glimsdal with teaching him “what to say and what not to say” in negotiations, and TrustNordisk managing director Susan Wendt with showing him how to “be the most fair that you can be”.

Hemmingsen has conducted business on Petra Volpe’s Berlinale Special title Late Shift, while he continues to represent Anders Thomas Jensen’s The Last Viking, Frelle Petersen’s Home Sweet Home and Eirik Svensson’s Göteborg audience award winner Safe House.

Hemmingsen has aspirations to take on more creative responsibilities, having been involved in marketing decisions including film title translations. He feels that independent sales firms should be “more aggressive in finding prestige projects early on”, and counter the move by big studios and streamers towards AI and automation. “It’s more risk to go with a sales agent — but it’s also more fun.”
