The second part of the $36.6m Russiansci-fi blockbuster, Inhabited Island: Part II will be released on April 23.

Inhabited Island, the first film from Fyodor Bondarchuk’s two-part adaptation of brothers Strugatsky’s cult sci-fi novel , has attracted 4.5m admissions and grossed $21m (Roubles 700m) in Russia, Ukraine and the Baltics since its New Year’s Day release.

The film’s producer, Alexandr Rodnyanskiy said: ‘The second film [set in year 2157] will be very different. It will be much more intense, emotional and action-packed with impressive battle scenes and large-scale depictions of war. At the same time the love story becomes more prominent, wherein the protagonist will set out on an adventure to save his beloved. In that sense, the second part is much more accessible fora wider audience.’

With a $36.6m budget, Inhabited Island (parts one and two) is the most expensive Russian project to date. The two parts combined and released as one film internationally.
