US sales firm 193 has sealed deals on four key titles on its slate at the Cannes market, including The Brigands Of Rattlecreek, directed by Cannes Competition jury president Park Chan-wook.
Brigands has sold to select Latin American territories (Sun Distribution) and Italy (Leone Film Group). Park’s film will star Matthew McConaughey, Austin Butler, Pedro Pascal and Tang Wei, in a western about a sheriff and a doctor who seek revenge against a group of bandits who use the cover of a torrential thunderstorm to rob and terrorise the occupants of a small town.
Fernando Meirelles’ satire Art starring Ralph Fiennes, Colin Farrell and Wagner Moura has sold to Latin America and Spain (Sun Distribution), and Germany, Austria and Switzerland (DCM).
Sun Distribution has also taken Latin America, Spain and South Africa rights on Doug Liman’s AI-facilitated thriller Bitcoin starring Casey Affleck, which began production at the end of February.
“This year’s market has been an incredibly rewarding moment for our team, and especially meaningful as we mark one year since launching the company in Cannes,” said 193 founder Patrick Wachsberger. “The slate we brought to the market, along with the exceptional filmmakers and cast behind these projects, reflects the ambition, scale, and creative strength we’ve built over the past year.”
193’s Cannes slate also includes two festival titles: Laszlo Nemes’ Competition entry Moulin, and Steven Soderbergh’s Special Screenings documentary John Lennon: The Last Interview.
