AGC International has reported major pre-sales on Chris Pine’s directorial debut Poolman including a multi-territory deal with Paramount as it prepares to show first footage to distribution partners at the AFM this week.

The film starring Pine, Annette Bening, Danny DeVito, Jennifer Jason Leigh and DeWanda Wise has gone to Paramount International for Canada, Germany, Italy, Benelux, Switzerland, Turkey and Asia pay-TV, as well as Sun Distribution in Latin America and Spain, and Studiocanal in Australia and New Zealand.

Elsewhere deals have closed in Scandinavia and Iceland (Mis Label), CIS and the Baltic States (Paradise/MGN), Eastern Europe (Monolith International), Middle East (Salim Ramia), Portugal (Nos Lusomundo), Israel (United King), South Africa (Empire Entertainment), India (Lionsgate), Greece (Spentzos), and airlines (WME). Signature Entertainment will distribute in the UK and talks are ongoing for US rights.

Poolman shot entirely on location in Los Angeles over the summer and is in post-production. AGC said it combines elements of noir classics like Chinatown and The Long Goodbye with the irreverence of The Big Lebowski. Pine stars as a dreamer who Looks after the pool at the city’s historic Tahitian Tiki apartment block and encounters a femme fatale, corrupt city officials and mysterious benefactors when he uncovers a water heist.

Pine, whose acting credits include the Star Trek and Wonder Woman franchises, serves as producer alongside Stacey Sher (Respect, Erin Brockovich), Wonder Woman franchise director Patty Jenkins, and Ian Gotler. AGC Studios financed the film with additional funding from Brickell and Broadbridge International.

AGC recently scored robust pre-sales on Richard Linklater’s Hitman starring Glen Powell and Adria Arjona, which is in production in New Orleans. Also in production is Anna Kendrick’s directorial debut The Dating Game starring Kendrick.

In post are Pierre Morel action comedy Freelance staring John Cena, Alison Brie and Juan Pablo Raba; Christian Ditter’s family comedy The Present with Isla Fisher and Greg Kinnear; Christopher Smith’s supernatural thriller Consecration with Jena Malone and Danny Huston; and Rupert Wyatt’s Desert Warrior starring Anthony Mackie, Aiysha Hart and Ben Kingsley.
