EXCLUSIVE: GFM Animation has closed key deals on feature film Stitch Head ahead of its world premiere at Annecy International Animation Film Festival next week.
The film has sold to Germany (Wild Bunch), France (Wild Bunch), Italy & Spain (Vertice Cine), Latin America (IDC), South Africa (FilmFinity), Portugal (Nos), Greece (Neo), Eastern Europe (Vertical), CIS (Central Partnership), Baltics (Acme), Iceland (Myndform), China (Aviro), Mongolia (Filmbridge), Vietnam (Skyline), Israel (Filmhouse), Middle East (ECS) and airlines (Ricochet).
It will have its world premiere in the Annecy Presents strand on Tuesday, June 10.
The feature directorial debut of UK filmmaker Steve Hudson, Stitch Head is based on the children’s book by Guy Bass, first published in 2011.
It follows a mad professor in a castle high above the little town of Grubbers Nubbin, who awakes monstrous creations then forgets about them. His first creation Stitch Head keeps everything in order; until a freak show comes to town one day, and courts Stitch Head as its new star.
The voice cast includes Asa Butterfield, Joel Fry, Tia Bannon, Rob Brydon, Alison Steadman, Fern Brady and Jamali Maddix.
Stitch Head is produced by Sonja Ewers for Germany’s Gringo Films and Mark Mertens for Luxembourg’s Fabrique d’Images, with Germany’s Tramhaus Studios and the German branch of Wild Bunch.
“We’re delighted to be announcing these international distribution deals ahead of Annecy, which are testament to the film’s great story, engaging characters and superb animation,” said Fred Hedman, head of sales at UK-based GFM Animation. “With discussions underway for the remaining territories, including the US, we’re looking forward to family audiences worldwide falling in love with Stitch Head and his band of monsters, just as much as we have.”
GFM Animation is headed to Annecy with a slate that also includes the first two animated features based on stories from the late comic book icon Stan Lee, Heroes At Large and Silver Sentinel; plus Christmas story Humbugged! from the team behind 2005 animation Hoodwinked!
