Disney/20th Century Studios’ Avatar: Fire And Ash from James Cameron has grossed more than $55m in its first two days at the global box office, earning an estimated $12m in North American Thursday previews and $43.1m from international markets.
Active in 43 material markets outside North America, the sci-fi adventure scored highest opening days of 2025 in France on $5.5m, Germany on $4.7m, Australia on $2.5m for 62% market share, and Italy on $2.2m.
There were also number one 2025 opening days in Denmark, Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland, Iceland, New Zealand, Indonesia (highest for a non-local release) and Thailand (non-local), and several smaller European markets.
Avatar: Fire And Ash opened top in Mexico on $2.7m to claim 68% market share, of which 58% came from 3D; and arrived in Brazil on $1.6m for 70% market share, of which 3D represented 60%.
The tentpole earned $1.8m in Indonesia, and $1m in Taiwan and is forecast to open around the world in the range of $340m-$380m.
Avatar: The Way Of Water arrived in 2022 on $444m and finished on $2.34bn. The 2009 original earned $2.9bn when all was said and done.
Avatar and Avatar: The Way Of Water rank first and third in the all-time global box office pantheon, sandwiching Avengers: Endgame in second place on $2.8bn. Cameron’s Titanic ranks fourth on $2.26bn and this year’s Chinese smash Ne Zha 2 rounds out the top five on $2.2bn.
The fourth and fifth Avatar instalments are scheduled to open on December 21 2029 and December 19 2031, respectively.
