Former James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli, A24 co-founder and CEO Daniel Katz, Neon founder and CEO Tom Quinn and Miramax CEO Jonathan Glickman are among a strong lineup of speakers for the Industry Days section of the first Doha Film Festival (DFF).
The Industry Days will run from November 21-23; as part of the inaugural festival, which got underway this evening (November 20) and runs until November 28.
Broccoli will take part in a masterclass titled ‘The Role of a Creative Producer in a Changing Landscape’, with fellow producer Nicky Bentham and broadcaster Ayman Mohyeldin.
Broccoli produced the last nine James Bond films through Eon Productions, before selling the franchise to Amazon MGM Studios earlier this year.
Katz will take part in a masterclass session titled ‘Building A24’, tracing the journey of the independent studio he launched with David Fenkel and John Hodges in 2012.
According to the Doha notes, ‘The session will unpack what A24’s evolution says about the future of independent film in a global age’. The Broccoli and Katz talks will be closed door sessions.
Quinn will take part in a Fireside Chat session with Hassan Al Thawadi, chairman of the Film Committee and Media City Qatar, about ‘the global screen industry’s most pressing transformations’. The session will be moderated by Faisal Al Agel, co-founder at Sard Media Group.
Glickman will also participate in a Fireside Chat, titled ‘Producing for a Global Audience’, with media and industry strategist Karim Sarkis. Glickman took up his Miramax position in April last year, having previously been president of MGM’s motion picture group, and then founding Panoramic Media where he produced Creed III and The Underdoggs.
The DFF industry programme is hosted by the Film Committee and Media City Qatar, in collaboration with the Doha Film Institute. Headed by Al Thawadi, the Film Committee was established to position Qatar as a leading destination for global film production, co-financing, and creative collaboration.
Further speakers include EbonyLife CEO and Nigerian media mogul Mo Abudu; Brazilian producer and executive Rodrigo Teixeira; and AGC Studios chairman and CEO Stuart Ford.
Golden Globes president Helen Hoehne will take part in a panel titled ‘Television Meets Cinema: When the Small Screen Things Big’, with Left Bank Pictures’ chairman and co-founder Andy Harries, and Film Clinic founder and producer Mohamed Hefzy.
Doha Film Festival got underway this evening (Thursday, November 20) with the MENA premiere of Kaouther Ben Hania’s The Voice Of Hind Rajab.
