‘Put Your Soul On Your Hand And Walk’

Kino Lorber has picked up North American rights to Cannes ACID and Karlovy Vary documentary Put Your Soul On Your Hand And Walk, Iranian filmmaker Sepideh Farsi’s account of life under siege in Gaza.

The feature presents a first-hand perspective through video calls between Farsi and her friend, photojournalist and poet Fatma Hassona, who was killed along with her family in an Israeli airstrike on her home on April 16, one day after the film’s Cannes selection was announced.

Kino Lorber will release the film theatrically followed by a digital, educational, and home video rollout.

Vice president of acquisitions Karoliina Dwyer negotiated the deal with Sebastien Chesneau of Cercamon and said: “In the face of her tragic death and the continued destruction of Gaza, it feels more important than ever to ensure that Fatma’s story is heard.”

“This film is a hand stretched out towards Gaza, trying to make a film despite the physical blockade, in order to reach the human,” said Paris-based Farsi, who left her native Iran aged 18 after she was imprisoned as a dissident at 16. “My encounter with Fatem, who became my mirrored soul, was a miracle.”

Farsi’s credits include Tehran Without Permission and La Sirene.

Put Your Soul On Your Hand And Walk is produced by Rêves d’Eau Productions in co-production with 24images.
