Theo Stevenson will play Horrid Henry, with Anjelica Huston, Richard E Grant and Parminder Nagra co-starring in Nick Moore’s comedy produced by Vertigo and Novel Entertainment.

The UK’s first 3D feature aimed primarily at children got underway today [3] in London.

Eleven-year-old Stevenson (Re-Uniting The Rubins) has been cast in the eponymous role. Huston plays Henry’s teacher Miss Battle-Axe, Grant a rival headmaster and Nagra, Miss Lovely.

Rebecca Front is Henry’s headmistress Ms Oddbod, Noel Fielding makes an appearance as Killer Boy Rats’ frontman Ed Banger, joining Jo Brand as the Demon Dinner Lady, Matthew Horne as Henry’s Dad and Prunella Scales as Great Aunt Greta.

There are debuts for youngsters Scarlett Stitt as Moody Margaret and Ross Marron as Perfect Peter.

The shoot will last seven weeks with a release date in summer 2011.

Vertigo is co-producing with Novel Entertainment, who hold all rights to the Horrid Henry brand. International sales are being handled by Protagonist Pictures, who launched the film at the AFM.

Co-funded with UKFC, Prescience and Aegis Film Fund, the feature will be distributed by Vertigo Films in the UK.

Horrid Henry, created by author Francesca Simon, is one of the UK’s most successful literary characters, with book sales of over 16m worldwide.
