Colin Farrell, Steve Coogan, Charlie Heaton, Domhnall Gleeson, Himesh Patel, Niamh Algar and Simone Kirby have joined the cast of Rich Peppiatt’s Bad Bridgets, which will begin production next month in Northern Ireland and Ireland.

The new cast join previously announced Emilia Jones and Alison Oliver in the Netflix film, which is written and directed by Kneecap filmmaker Peppiatt.

LuckyChap is producing the film with Peppiatt and Trevor Birney’s Northern Irish company Coup d’Etat.

The film sees a mysterious letter offering a young Irish woman escape to 19th-century New York, where she is pulled into the unruly world of the Bridgets with mayhem following in her wake.

It is inspired by Elaine Farrell and Leanne McCormick’s 2023 book Bad Bridget: Crime, Mayhem and the Lives of Irish Emigrant Women. The film was developed with support from Queen’s University Belfast, and is produced with support from Northern Ireland Screen.

Netflix boarded global rights on the film last month.

Oliver, Heaton, Patel and Algar have previously been named Screen UK-Ireland Stars of Tomorrow.

Peppiatt’s Kneecap was the most-nominated debut feature in the history of the Bafta film awards with six nominations, winning for outstanding debut by a British writer, director or producer. It also won six British Independent Film Awards, including Best British Independent Film.
